"BUT YOU'VE ALREADY - YOU'VE FINISHED," I SAID."
His fingers nudged against all the right spots inside of me as his thumb rolled around my sensitive bundle of nerves. Gone was the discomfort and the wrongness that I had felt earlier when he first plunged his fingers inside of me. Instead, I couldn't help but let out a moan that made him shiver.
"I have only just begun," he corrected. "I was merely trying to get the edge off so I would have more control when I finally bury myself in you," he explained. "Such a pretty little thing..." he murmured, whispering another spell to pin my wrists above my head, leaving my body fully at his mercy.
...
A week after my eighteenth birthday, I am kidnapped by my best friend, who believes that our marriage is the best way to hide me from a bloodthirsty emperor who will do anything to bring me to his side. I come from a town of healers with the capability to nurse back to health even those who are on the verge of death. But it appears that I've healed the wrong person when the emperor becomes utterly and completely obsessed with me, sending the sick and injured of his own doing to our home with a message for me… He wants to marry me... a request that I've refused over and over again.
Max believed he was doing the right thing by marrying me, but I was hard-pressed to disagree. I loved my friend, but I wasn't in love with him. He believed that in time, that would change, but the emperor wasn't someone to be ignored and when he finds me, I know there would be hell to pay for my insolence.
…
He trailed his touch from hip to knee and then back again. "I am enjoying what's mine before I pass them on to another."
I froze. Was he going to pass me around the court, then? A trophy to be ripped apart and devoured by the monsters that ruled alongside him in his court? I had assumed that he was too covetous for that, but perhaps nothing was beyond this creature.
He barked out a laugh. "Oh, no need to look so worried. They'll go to someone you like enough to warm your bed. The husband you took after you've scorned me again and again," he said.
"What are you planning?" I was too tired for games. He had said, 'they' and not 'you', which made no sense to me.
With mocking tenderness, he leaned across my body and pressed a kiss to my thigh, then bit down on the skin with sharp teeth.
My body lurched, curling inwards in anticipation of more pain to come, but he only laughed against my skin and pressed another kiss to the spot before lifting his head.
"You have no more use for these now that you're right where you're meant to be," he said, running a hand along each of my legs, fingers curling across my ankles and the arches of my feet. "You're never going to leave me," he said.
